You must have heard that there was a data breach not long time where Email.it users were hacked and all the database from the email service provider was revealed. Now, a new report from ZDNet reveals something that is very worrying for all those who had an account on Email.it. Because the publication reveals that one of their readers introduced them to the fact that those 600,000 users’ data is being sold on the dark web.
ZDNet has also attached a statement from Email.it where they have confirmed about being hacked. Their statement reads: “Unfortunately, we must confirm that we have suffered a hacker attack,” On the other hand, it is also known that the hack took place on Sunday when the hackers were promoting a website which had company’s data being sold on the dark web.
These hackers are working under the name of NN Hacking Group which stands for No Name Hacking Group. However, it is also understood that the actual breach took place in January 2018 but the data is just now being sold online.
As per the statement from NN Hacking Group, they claim that “We breached Email.it Datacenter more than 2 years ago and we plant ourself like an APT. We took any possible sensitive data from their server and after we choosen to give them a chance to patch their holes asking for a little bounty. They refused to talk with us and continued to trick their users/customers. They didn’t contacted their users/customers after breaches!”
Also, it is known that they tried to ask for “a little bounty” from Email.it on February 1 due to the breach. But ZDNet was told by Email.it that they declined to pay them money and instead notified about the hack to Italian Postal Police. As a retaliation, hackers are now selling company’s more than 5TB size of data for up to 3 bitcoins.
