We have seen that there is a lot of anger against the Chinese government right now due to their handling of the Coronavirus which is the reason why close to a million people have lost their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we also have the concerns from Chinese regarding their hacking and other criminal activities as well as suppression of minorities and their attacks on other countries. As you can tell, there is a lot of anger building up against China from all parts of the world and we are now seeing results of the same.
As we all know, there are lots and lots of Chinese apps in circulation over the world that are very popular and they also have security concerns and privacy issues because their servers are stored in China and can be accessed by the Chinese authorities whenever they feel so. Also, there is a border situation going on between India and China and the countries are trying ways to pressurize each other in doing what they want. So the Indian Government has decided that banning 59 of the popular but risky apps from China is the way to go.
Talking about the 59 apps that have been banned by the Indian Government, they include TikTok and CamScanner among others. It is said that these apps posed a “national security” risk for the Indian citizens which is the main reason why they have banned. It is also known that this ban might not be limited to removing these apps from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Instead, it is possible that the Chinese apps might be blocked on a geographical level meaning that their servers won’t work in Indian locations and they can only be accessed by a VPN. If this turns out to be true, it will be a real answer to the Chinese atrocities going on.
