While we know that Coronavirus vaccine trials are going on and we also know that US’ companies such as Moderna and Gilead Sciences have shown promise that their vaccine is working which is great for humanity as well as it will help in closing the pandemic early.

But we have a concern from the cybersecurity world right now because it is said that Russia is trying to hack the virus vaccine trials. As we know, Russia is also developing their own vaccine and they have also said that their results are promising.

Having said that, they have not published any results of their own which means there is something sketchy about their claim. Now that we know the US, UK, as well as Canada are saying that Russia is trying to hack their vaccine trial results could be because they want to compare their results with others.

The authorities have claimed that “hacking group APT29, also known as Cozy Bear, is attacking academic and pharmaceutical research institutions involved in COVID-19 vaccine development. The same group was implicated in the hacking of Democratic email accounts during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”

Also, there is a question of whether this should be done by Russia or not as the authorities say that “It is completely unacceptable that the Russian Intelligence Services are targeting those working to combat the coronavirus pandemic.” Also, Moscow has been accused of “selfish interests with reckless behaviour.” by the same authorities meaning that they could gain advantage thanks to this hacks.

White House press secretary has informed everyone that “We worked very closely with our allies to ensure that we would take measures to keep that information safe and we continue to do so so.” Also, the US is saying that China is involved in similar hacking attempts of their own.
